The Internet economy is a key part of the Czech economy and the digital environment development is crucial for the country's competitiveness, SPIR head Jan Simkanic said in Prague, Czech Republic, January 18, 2017. In 2015, the Czech Republic was the EU's number three in terms of companies conducting business using computer networks, with the share in the total number of firms being 56 percent. The EU average was 40 percent. Czech companies generated 30 percent of their sales via computer networks, which is double the EU average, and more than 98 percent of firms have Internet access, that is 3 percentage points above the EU average.
